Taxes in France

Taxes are always a source of frustrations and headaches. In France, this is no different. Most taxes will sound familiar to you and will have a counterpart in your country to. We will try to give you an overview of some of the taxes that will have an impact on you as a second home owner or expat in France. If you don't find everything you need here or if you have a rather peculiar situation, we advise you to take a look at droit-finances (! French website) or to contact a specialist in French law.

Where should I be paying taxes?

For a number of taxes, there is a cristal clear connection between the use and the country (for example; taxes on fuel or VAT). For other taxes, this connection is less straightforward. If I live in France, but I have a rental income or pension abroad, which country will be taxing that income?

Alot depends on your fiscal domicile. You can find more information on this subject in our fiscal domicile section. For taxes where there are exemptions on this rule, we will mention this for each type of tax below.
